Muscarinic Toxins
MT1, MT3, MT7, and MTa
Manufactured by the Peptide Institute and Now Available from Peptides International

There are 5 subtypes (M1-M5) of muscarinic acetylcholine receptor belonging to the G protein-coupled receptor family that are expressed in mammalian brain. Elucidation of receptor subtype requires specific ligands. Peptides from snake venom (64-66 residues) have been found to bind with subtype specificity and therefore are named "muscarinic toxins."  We now introduce Muscarinic Toxin 3, a selective M4 antagonist, in addition to  MT1 and MT7. Muscarinic Toxin 7 (MTx7, MT7) is reported to be an M1 specific ligand . While Muscarinic Toxin 1 (MTx1, MT1) is reported to bind to both M1 and M3 with slightly higher affinity for M1, MT1 acts as an agonist in improving memory consolidation when injected into the dorsal hippocampus.  MT1 has also been implicated as a tool for further investigation of Alzheimer’s research.
